New Features

We have upgraded FutureGovNetwork with some improvements.

  • Login via twitter, facebook, google, openid, flickr or blogger. To save time people registering another account we have added this. If you login via twitter and you already have an account we will try to link them, but if we don't a new account will be created.
  • Your Posts - You can now manage your posts, to start with we have allowed you to delete posts you posted incorrectly or for whatever other reason.
  • Change Pasword - After resetting passwords some users would like to change it to something they like.
  • External Networks - When viewing a users profile from the people section you can now see their latest tweets and their blog posts if they have set their twitter username and RSS feed for their blog.
  • Fixed some issues on comment notifications - when someone comments on a post you wrote on you will be notified. To enable this tick the option in the profile settings.

SCRUM in Under 10 Minutes

Every project I work with and on has to be agile, once worked on this type of a project I have never looked back at (BDUF) big design up front.

I had this video forwarded on and I think it gives a good overview on SCRUM, one of the main methods of agile and I think the best.

You must remember that there are always some differences with every product build, the roles of developers, scrum masters, etc.

Google Local Government event

After a really long day at Google on Friday there was plenty to think about. The Googlers gave us an insight into their range of products, from tools to help you make money from your website through to creative uses of YouTube.
There's definitely more discussion with Google to come - they need our help to understand the issues faced by local government, and we've certainly got a role to play in shaping the relationship between Google and the local government sector so that everyone get.... Read More

Google Local Government event

I'm spending the day at Google's Local Government event in London listening to google talk about their products and services - I thought I'd share their top tips for good websites, since I know lots of councils struggle to get their sites right.  Originally written for ecommerce sites (Amazon etc) these tips need some adaptation for government, but not as much as you might think - after all, it's better to get people transacting online, reducing the costs of dealing with calls and paperwo....
