FutureGov Networks is in beta, which means we're still working on it. We want it to be useful so tell us what you think and what else you'd like to see and we'll make it happen.
We are a consultancy with a passion for making the most of information and the web to improve the public sector. We want to help government get closer to its customers so that services better meet their needs.
Hi and welcome to the FutureGov Network!
We have developed this site as a place to start to capture those things that you all do to improve public services - share stuff you're working on, look at what other people are doing, and most importantly talk.
The kinds of things you might want to do on the site:
This site has been built in record time (one week, to be exact) and with one developer, which just goes to show what you can do quickly and inexpensively with web technology. We decided to take a very bottom up approach to developing the Network, starting simply and getting ideas from you the users as to what we should focus on building next.
So let us know what you think of what we've got so far and tell us what else would be useful. We'll try and make it happen, or if we can't then we'll tell you why not.
We aren't shouting about the site too widely just yet as we want to let the people in the know get to play with it and help us test it first of all, so please get involved and have a play.
First things first, tell us about yourself by setting up a profile. Stick up a picture of yourself, plus a description of who you are, what you do, and what you're working on. Then choose some key words (tags) to describe yourself and add in stuff from other accounts you might have (Twitter, LinkedIn etc). Once you've got a profile check out other people's and some of the stuff we've already posted up here. When you're ready post some of your own stuff up there, ask questions, do a brain dump, whatever.
Thanks and enjoy!

Hi, I work at the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS), a research institute of the European Commission JRC. I am interested in research on future ICT-enabled governance models at city level in Europe. We are currently conducting what we call a 'mapping' survey to identify key city governance policy areas most impacted by ICTs and select some significant case studies. If you wish to contribute to this exploratory research activity you can access the survey at http://ec.europa.eu/yourvoice/ipm/forms/dispatch?form=EXPGOV
Ideally the questionnaire should be answered by a city manager having a broad overview of the city governance processes and ICTs development (e.g. a representative of the Office of the Mayor or CIO), but we are also interested in having feedback from researchers and experts at city level. The survey will be open until December 15th 2009.
